Rael Nyte - Sports Philanthropist and founder of Tunza Sports Foundation - uses sports to empower under privileged and underrepresented girls from rural villages, with life changing skills that will enable them become women of integrity, women of substance and functional community leaders. Rael is a former Kenyan International Hockey player and is currently a member of USA Masters Women’s Hockey Team. She is also a field hockey Technical Official with USA Field Hockey and Pan American Hockey Federation. She is a self-driven champion for girls, who believes that it is more beneficial to provide tools for development and survival, to avoid over-dependency and encourage self-reliance.
She has placed sports at the center of her philanthropic journey as it encompasses health, reconciliation and breaks barriers instituted by being different from one another. It is the painful experiences and the lack of assurance that she was important, beautiful, appreciated, loved and special, that draws her to destitute children. It is out of sheer defiance and using the one opportunity she got that enabled her to wiggle herself out of poverty, but then it dawned on her that not everyone gets that opportunity and so she decided to be that opportunity to others.
In 2019 the first cohort of 11 girls from Rael’s organization gained athletic scholarships admission to two reputable high schools, that were otherwise not accessible to them. The next group of 13 followed suit and are now in form I. Rael who resides in the US was an Honoree for the New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Awards for her extraordinary volunteer/public service in New Jersey. Her category, “Against all odds”, recognized individuals who overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to serve others. The Jefferson Awards are the United States oldest and most prestigious recognition program for volunteer/ public service and are the official recognition program of the United States Senate and also the official recognition of the Governor’s Council on Volunteerism. It comes to no surprise that she was a Zuri awards honoree for extraordinary work she is doing in her community in Kenya.
Rael’s hockey development program has been highlighted and published by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Pan American Hockey Federation for her efforts in using sports to change the lives of girls in rural Kenya. These are among countless of local media articles identifying her efforts. Rael has a career in Diplomacy and works for the United Nations, with Masters in both Diplomacy and Public Administration, a Bachelors in Political Science, as well as a Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering.

Portia Shipman, a seasoned entrepreneur and mother of four adult children, manages multiple businesses ranging from a party bus service to a home care agency. She is also the Founder and former Executive Director of the Sherri Denese Jackson Foundation for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit established on June 26, 2008, in collaboration with her twin daughters, Terri and Torri, following the tragic passing of her dear friend Sherri Jackson.
Portia has dedicated over thirteen years to advocating for domestic violence victims through her non-profit. Notably, her organization was the first to receive a significant grant of $25,000 in 2010-2011 from the prestigious Women to Women initiative of the Greater Greensboro Community Foundation.
A notable achievement for Portia was the flag flying over the United States Capital in her name, presented by NC Congressman Mark Walker in 2018. This acknowledgment highlighted her impactful contributions.
Portia's commitment to saving lives, particularly women, has been featured on TV One, Oxygen, and Investigation Discovery, sharing the story of Sherri in various documentaries since 2018.
In August 2018, Portia was among the Black African Americans invited by the former Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbe Shola, for a two-week IFA Religion Pilgrimage. This journey allowed her to share her expertise on elder/senior care and domestic violence. During the pilgrimage, she had the honor of meeting the first-class monarch, the Ooni of Ile Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja ll). Portia was ordained as a Yoruba High Priestess, Queen Mother Aje'bifa, during her visit to Osun state Osogbo, Nigeria.
Upon her return from Nigeria, tragedy struck, leading to the closure of her home care agency, Reliable Home Care Services, LLC. However, in 2023, she rekindled her passion by establishing Good Times Home Health Care, Inc., marking her third home care agency. Her first agency, Shipman Family Home Care Services, Inc., was founded in 1989 with her late mother, Gladys F. Shipman, a recognized Civil Rights Icon.
In 2022, Portia took a bold step into grassroots politics, running for a seat on the Greensboro City Council, representing District 2. Although not elected, she remains dedicated to improving her community.
Today, Portia continues her advocacy against domestic violence through her trademarked initiative, the "Paint the City Purple Campaign," offering awareness and prevention services, workshops, and events.
As a first-time author, Portia shares her life story in "Those Sandals," a memoir recounting her experiences growing up with a mother who imparted the knowledge she knew. The book narrates her journey through years of domestic violence, highlighting resilience and purpose.
Combining all her endeavors, Portia formed Portia Shipman Enterprises LLC on March 23, 2023, allowing her to serve more people and showcase her unique talents.
In a recent development, Portia was appointed as Festac Africa USA Representative/Ambassador, officially signed for two years. Festac Africa, a renowned festival since 1966, will travel to Kisumu, Kenya, in 2024, with Portia proudly representing the USA.

Creator of SABC's prime time women's talk show Motswako, Carol Bower is a television producer with a heart for women's emancipation as well as empowerment issues. Her time as UNICEF SA's Special Advocate for women and children served to dispel long held perceptions about the organisation and brought it closer to everyday South Africans. It further saw her use her work to highlight the needs of society and raise much needed funds for the organization to use in service of the community.
Carol Bower is a Businesswoman, humanitarian, Media owner as well as a speaker and advocate on issues pertaining to the welfare of children, women and South Africans at large.
She has created multiple iconic platforms for South Africa which continue to serve as well as inspire much needed clones. Amongst them are 21 years of at yako- a women's talk show which is currently playing as a repeat broadcast in the Africa platform.
Carol created and produces the Mbokodo Awards- an award to recognise the achievements and contributions of women in the arts, African Odyssey- a showcase of the luxury and fashion business run by women on the continent which uses the presence of international fashion icons to inspire transformation for local emerging businesses and brands.
Bower has worked with local NGOs and served on the boards of a few service led organisations including until recently the Norval Foundation and previously the Amy Biehl Foundation.
The common thread is service to women and children, Carol is a doer and transforms every space where she serves. Her talk show Motswako remains a seminal moment for Black women in broadcasting post democracy and her conferences have all been tools for the unearthing of the power inherent in South African women. To quote her, "my love of self has allowed me to see women in our country in the same light I see myself, their win is mine and my win is theirs. That has fueled me from a matchbox in Soweto to wherever my heart desires. I am so grateful!"
